High Rise - Beauty or the Beast?
We seem to have different perspectives of residential high-rise, depending on the location, the culture, climate, social context, when they were built, but especially because of our experiences with life in tall buildings.
Some of us associate these buildings with social deprivation, class-divide, anti-social behaviour; a problem to which demolition and replacement is the only solution.
Others have great memories growing up with wide views, shared facilities, tight communities and plenty of space to play.
How can we learn from our inherited environment, what can the different high-rise experiences tell us? In these pandemic times where we are revaluing how we live and are looking for solutions to tackle climate change, can high rise be a new and valuable solution?
Social systems, patterns of living, how can they be supported best by the build environment without using up all the resources that our planet has to offer?
Join us for an open discussion at the Creative Bravery Festival about the High Rise and its potential for a sustainable future
